USFM is an attempt to unify the many variations in usage of backslash (\) codes to mark Scripture texts. To find someone without doctrinal bias we would have to find an atheist haha. As long as I don't see soundly formulated critiques against the W&H, I think we should prefer this version over the T Receptus Since none of us is an expert on textual critique here, we will need to defer to the integrity of those who went before us. Virtually every well respected modern translation, ranging from the ESV to NIV uses their work for the translation of the New Testament. What I found is that most critiques against Westcott and Hort consist of ad hominem attacks and very little is written against their scholarly integrity. But more recently I've come to understand their POV even if I've not necessarily been persuaded to agree with it. I used to think that those who were strongly against W&H and in love with Textus Receptus were a little off base. I guess if we were to collaborate on such an exciting project we would start by setting the parameters, objectives, etc, and part of that process would be that we would be comfortable with selected source texts based upon the scholarly credibility together with "other matters" that factor in. It would be very beneficial to have at least one true Greek scholar on board - ideally one with no doctrinal bias (LOL).

I would very much support taking it on in partnership with others if we could agree the parameters and workflow for the project. Of course we wouldn't be tied to a single source, and the "Majority Text" would be another, but in each case there are questions to be raised.Įither way the exercise itself would be an awesome learning and study experience. Some of the bias starts with how closely the source text is aligned with one's theology. But more recently I've come to understand their POV even if I've not necessarily been persuaded to agree with it.ĭoes anybody have good information (or even opinion) about W&H? This actually pertains to the original point of Meleti's post as well.
